Sometimes help comes from an unlikely source. I’ve been trying to help Wilbur get a handle on his debt and get his finances under control. At the same time I haven’t been paying as much attention as I should to my own finances. Wilbur is at a stage in the debt paying off process where things are working like clock work. He’s looking at the budget daily and keeping things up to date. Maybe he is trying to model what I should be doing.

Wilbur: Of course I am modeling what you should be doing. I’ve taken all your advice.

Jason: Yes you have. But I am out of debt. it is harder to stay motivated now.

Wilbur: Well you don’t wish to end up like me? Not paying attention is what got us into this mess in the first place.

Jason: You’re right. I guess I don’t want to slide back down that rabbit hole

Wilbur: I hope that was figuratively speaking because if a rabbit has moved in on Mabel’s Garden she isn’t going to be happy.

Jason: Yes, no rabbits have moved in, wow did we ever get sidetracked.

Wilbur: Sorry, buddy. Okay, so you have to get back to budgeting. Yesterday you said no T.V. or games till the work was done. What did you do after work yesterday?

Jason: Wow, holding my feet to the fire eh?

Wilbur: Of course that is what friends are for!

Jason: Well if you must know after dinner I spent the evening in meetings at the local church my wife and I attend. No T.V. or games last night.

Wilbur: By the way do those computer games cost money?

Jason: Other then the initial purchase price they do not. I generally only buy a game once in a blue moon or so.

Wilbur: Well I hope they are not breaking your budget when you buy one.

Jason: Nope, last one I got cost 20 dollars.

Wilbur: Ha! you don’t know that do you? Those games could be breaking your budget wide open! They could be the thing that throws your world back into chaos! You could end up in debt with nowhere to turn but your buddy Wilbur.

Jason: You are trying to hold my feet to the fire today. Sure I don’t know exactly if the purchase has broken my budget. But I highly doubt it.

Wilbur: Doom and Gloom I say! Without a budget the sky is falling and you won’t know it till the world crashes around you! Doom and Gloom!

Jason: Are we done yet?

Wilbur: Sure I’m done now, just trying to add some helpful way over dramatic encouragement.

Jason: I’ll say. Anyways time for me to head off to work. Have a nice day buddy.

Wilbur: Watch out for the Sky!
